Envy and eUnited to DreamHack Masters Malmö Closed Qualifier upper bracket final
The first day of the DreamHack Masters Malmö Closed Qualifier has seen Envy and eUnited advance to the upper bracket final.
The first match of the quarter-finals between Swole Patrol and Stay Frosty wasn't played, as Stay Frosty had to forfeit due to the timing of the qualifier. Next up, eUnited had an easy time with Monstars, who were playing with Benita "bENITA" Novshadian instead of Shawn "witmer" Taylor, and were only able to take nine rounds on the two maps that were played.
Ryan "ryann" Welsh and Envy breezed past Divine, winning their match against Alexander "zander" Diaz's team 2-0. The last quarter-final match finished with Sharks and their two new additions, Luca "Luken" Nadotti, and Ignacio "meyern" Meyer, beating ATK in two maps, 19-16 on Inferno and 16-10 on Train.
Swole Patrol started their semi-final match against Envy by winning Mirage 16-14, but Envy bounced back and won Inferno 16-2. Train was a back-and-forth map, but Sam "s0m" Oh and his team managed to close out the game 16-14.
The first map of the semi-final between eUnited and Sharks, Train, finished with a 16-2 score in favor of the South American team, but eUnited were able to reverse sweep and claim the next two maps and advance to the upper bracket finals.
Down in the lower bracket, witmer was back for Monstars' match against ATK, but it was not enough to keep his team from being eliminated by the South African/American side.
