Ascent go undefeated to win DreamHack Montreal BYOC
Ascent claimed victory at DreamHack Montreal this past weekend, executing a flawless run through the BYOC event to take the lion's share of the $10,000 prize pool.
A four-group, 28 team round-robin stage saw Ascent go 6-0 to start their weekend run, while Target X, voLante, and Dans ta yeule were able to mirror the result with 6-0 records of their own in the other three groups. Four teams from each of the groups advanced to a single-elimination bracket for playoffs, with sixteen teams in total clashing in a series of best-of-one matchups.
Ascent had little difficulty making their way through, dominating Mindset in their opening matchup 16-2. Their next game was also won without much trouble as the team sent GLZ VitaPLUR Gum packing with a 16-11 scoreline. Ascent's semifinal match pitted them up against voLante, another team with a flawless record, but Joshua "KiiroKami" Kim and company made short work of their opposition with a 16-7 victory.
Dans ta yeule, who had also remained undefeated up until the grand final, met their first challenge as they went up against Ascent to decide the victor of the BYOC tournament. Ascent secured themselves a 16-8 win on Overpass to kick off the series, quickly following up with a 16-11 victory on Dust2 to take the trophy.
