Oceanus top LiViD to win DreamHack Canadian Championship
The grand final of the DreamHack Canadian Championship played out in Montreal yesterday, seeing French Canadian sides LiViD and Oceanus take each other on in a best-of-three. The latter side were in attendance without Gabriel "tENSKI" Rodrigue, but had the luxury of a more than adequate stand-in in the form of Yassine "Subroza" Taoufik.
Things started off on the right foot for LiViD, as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Inferno before letting their opponents get on the scoreboard. The half would belong to them as well, as it would finish with Anthony "gMd" Guimond and his men with a 10-5 lead.
Another pistol win for LiViD had them sitting pretty, but Oceanus were immediately able to counter. This pattern would repeat once more before Subroza would lead his team on an eight-round winning streak, pushing the score 15-13 in their favor. LiViD would secure one further round, but that would be all as Oceanus would claim the first map.
Unfortunately things did not get better for LiViD, as Michael "miLLe" St-Pierre and Oceanus sped to an 11-1 lead on the T-side of Mirage. The only saving grace for LiViD in the half would be securing the final three rounds, allowing themselves a minimal amount of breathing room going into the second half.
Oceanus, however, was intent on suffocating their countrymen, as they opened their defensive side with four rounds in a row to put themselves on matchpoint. A final gasp from LiViD would see them grab four of their own, but then Oceanus put the final nail in the coffin to end the map 16-8 in their favor.
The final standings of the event were:
1. Oceanus (KOLER, miLLe, J0LZ, Melio, Subroza) - $6,000
2. LiViD (MkaeL, huynh, INCRED, gMd, effys) - $4,000
DreamHack Montreal continues today, though the only additional Counter-Strike that will be played will be as part of the BYOC. While Subroza was in attendance, he also took the time to participate in a panel alongside former CLG Red member Stephanie "missharvey" Harvey.
