NIP bring the paiN
paiN had a woeful outing last time on the international stage where at the IEM Katowice play-in's the team went out with a whimper and winless. After losing their captain Vinicios "PKL" Coelho following the event, the team now has to adjust and ESL Pro League Season 17 is their chance to prove they can compete on an international level. Their opening match could be a perfect opportunity for an upset as NIP are still using Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke in place of Hampus "hampus" Poser whilst the Swede is on personal leave.
The match started off on paiN's choice of Nuke, where the Brazilians have some sort of success in the past and hoped that it would translate to this underdog fight. It seemed like it was working at first, with paiN jumping to a 4-2 lead, but thanks to an unfortunate eco-loss they would go on the back foot and lose the first half 6-9.
The second half was definitely better for paiN as, despite losing the pistol, would eventually take the lead at 13-12. But with the win so close, they couldn't close it out as NIP came back to secure Nuke in a 16-12 win.
It was looking like it might be the end of paiN, however a quick 4-0 lead on their CT-side as they started on Vertigo would bring a glimmer of hope. That hope would be quickly dashed away as NIP ran seven rounds in a row before securing the first half 9-6.
With one last chance here on their T-side of Vertigo, they would encounter the same trouble as they had before. A pistol win, the second of the game, would give them an advantage, but it was something they couldn't capitalize on as they would lag behind the Swedish organization the whole afternoon. NIP would eventually close out the match 16-13.
paiN are now headed to the lower bracket where they will face off against the Oceanic team Rooster tomorrow at 06:30AM.
