dexter on MOUZ teammates: "these kids they are so bloody high energy"
Right after qualifying for the Legends Stage with a 2-1 win over fnatic to go 3-0 on the Challengers Stage, Christopher "dexter" Nong talked with Dust2.us' Ryan Friend about the expectations coming into the Major, the roster changes, the impact from Dorian "xertioN" Berman, and his time in Europe.
Not many people had you pegged to go 3-0. How does it feel to beat a lot of people's expectations and ride right into the Legends Stage?
Feels very good. I love seeing the comments and everything of everyone being like "Ah, you guys won't do anything" and then just beating that. It's a good feeling.
You guys have changed a lot of players, you have undergone some transformations. How do you feel about the team formation now, compared to any other of the previous iterations?
It's very good. Extremely high energy and lots of good focus, in terms of wanting to improve. Obviously, we wanted to improve in the past but it's more direct and it's done instantly, so it's a very good feeling.
Talk to me a little bit about xertioN. He has kind of exploded in this stage of the Major and is one of the best players that we are so far seeing. What does he bring to the table that's different than most other players?
I haven't played with too many players, so I wouldn't know, but in terms of what he brings is more about instant improvement. He is always asking what he can do better or what we can do better. If something's wrong he will just say it, and it makes my job so much easier when I can just be like "Alright, here is a fix for that" because I don't really know from their perspective.
We are also seeing Asian CS having some moments here. Right now we are watching the 00 NATION x IHC game. IHC has brought it level 1-1 and we saw Grayhound take a win over Cloud 9 last night. What do you think about those? Is this a good time for Asian/OCE CS?
Yeah, I think there should be more events in Asia and Australia and all that but we will see as we go because they have been so isolated for so long. It's a massive disadvantage in every aspect of the game.
Being someone from down under and now you are in Europe full time being on a European team, culturally and also team-wise, what's different and what do you find better?
In Europe with these kids they are so bloody high energy. In Australia and New Zealand, everyone is very relaxed, we speak slowly, these guys are singing and dancing and just going instant instant instant. That's the biggest change for me and I'm just at the back, relaxing.
Has it been hard to adjust or have you taken it by storm there?
It's fine for me. This is life, so you just deal with it. It's just funny, it's something to look at like I'm in a zoo and my teammates are making me laugh. It's a good feeling.
You are also getting a little bit of an easier schedule in these first three games because you haven't had to face Brazilian teams in front of this Brazilian crowd. Do you think that helped you guys just a little bit by having the crowd on your side?
Yeah, probably, I don't know just yet because it's a scary prospect going up on that stage against a Brazilian team. Fingers crossed that we are going to have a good time or at least just enjoy ourselves if we go versus one.
You are going to have a three days break before you have to start up again. What are you going try to do in those three days, rest, and relax or are you looking forward to try to prepare for what's to come?
Probably just rewatch the games and look at what we can do better. Maybe add more pocket strats, but other than that I think we achieved our goals with the mental side of the CS we wanted to.
Any words to all your loyal Australian fans out there?
Just thank you for the support, it's always appreciated and it's nice to see the good comments always and I do see it.
