Snakes show Pr0mise, Nouns go cynical on week 1 of ECL S43 NA
While ESL Challenger League Season 43 North America started just last week it was also immediately after the end of Season 42. Since then, only two series were played but they were certainly fun to watch.
The opening games had Kari face off against the newly promoted Snakes Den in Group A and the runners-up from last season, Nouns, up against Mythic in Group B.
The series between Kari and Snakes Den was very exciting to watch, as the Snakes' roster seemed to be ready for the level of competition Kari showed them. Snakes Den, on the back of a great team effort, was able to win map one, Inferno. Some of Kari's heavy hitters, such as Matthew "Cryptic" Whitmore, didn't perform very well on the opening map, hence the 16-7 win for the newcomers. Map two was Overpass and Cryptic, alongside Sebastian "Florence" Ogarev, put on a huge performance to repeat the scoreline, but this time in favor of Kari. It looked like the game had shifted away from Snakes Den, but the Vertigo decider started off with Mason "Pr0mise" Maher and Daniel "Reason" Martinez pushing their team to a 10-5 score at the half, on the T-side. Despite the lead, Kari had the executes down and showed an incredible Vertigo T-side, only losing two rounds during the second half. The map ended 16-12 for Kari, who took the first win of Group A.

Over on Group B, there was a game between some veterans of the North American scene, as Erik "fl0m" Flom's team faced off against Danny "cxzi" Strzelczyk's. The teams hadn't faced each other since the Gaimin Gladiators days in June, where Mythic lost 2-0. This time around, with some roster moves from both sides, Mythic slightly improved but still lost 2-1. Things started poorly for fl0m and co. as they lost their map pick of Overpass 16-7, after going missing on the CT-side. David "cynic" Polster got 15 kills and only 2 deaths during the second half alone, something that would be consistent throughout the series. Nouns' map pick was Mirage and it was very close, with the map ending 16-14 to Mythic. Mythic's youngest members were the ones pushing the team forward as Tyler "tweiss" Weiss and Nicholas "hate" Young combined had 57 kills. cynic also finished the map with 32 victims. To decide the series, the teams went to Nuke, the second-best map for both rosters. It was a tight game until the half, but, despite being down 12-8, Nouns got eight straight to close the series, as Jeorge "jeorgesnorts" Endicott was a huge factor in Nouns' defense. cynic ended the series with a total of 88 kills and Nouns went home with a win.
