Twistzz nominated for PC POTY
The annual Esports Awards have released their finalists for Esports PC Player of the Year. Of the eleven finalists, two are professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players, Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev of NAVI, and Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken of FaZe.
s1mple was the recipient of the prestigious award last year, following NAVI’s flawless run at PGL Major Stockholm, where s1mple not only demolished the competition but also came away with the tournament MVP.
Both s1mple and Twistzz were also nominated for PC POTY in 2019, and while neither won that year (s1mple came third), it shows just how dominant these two players are, to be nominated three years apart.
Twistzz, who won the PGL Antwerp Major with FaZe, has a good stake to the claim as well this year. Beyond winning the biggest tournament of the year thus far, FaZe was completely dominant for a stretch, winning BLAST Premier Spring Groups, IEM Katowice, ESL Pro League Season 15, and IEM Cologne. So far, FaZe have won a majority of this year’s elite events. If they win the upcoming IEM Rio Major, they will also take home the Intel Grand Slam, cementing themselves as the best team of 2022.
Of course, we can’t forget Twistzz’s incredible play in the final rounds of the PGL Antwerp Major to win his first Major. Not only was it stunning, it was also voted Play of the Month in July by the Esports Awards, no doubt a contributing factor in his inclusion on this list.
