ATK leave MIBR Missing in Brazil
MIBR faced off against ATK in one of Day two's opening matchups in the 1-1 pool. After an opening-day choke from the Brazilian team against 9z and a tough matchup for ATK against the in-form Complexity, both teams were looking to continue on an upward trajectory after picking up wins in their final day-one matches.
The pistol round was a tight affair, in what would set the tone for the start of the match with ATK managing to get the bomb planted on their T side but a 4v5 retake swung in the favour of MIBR after kills from Henrique "HEN1" Teles and Matheus "Tuurtle" Anhaia. The American, South African mix managed to scrape together a force-buy win after Gareth "MisteM" Ries won a 1v2 clutch on the A site to give them their first round and they secured the follow-up round without trouble.
The first gun round went in the favour of the Brazilian team, with Jhonatan "JOTA" Willian getting a triple kill at Mid doors to close out the round. In round eight Rhys "fadey" Armstrong was left needing an ace clutch on the B bombsite to win out the round and in failing to do so MIBR managed to extend the gap between the two teams. JOTA sat on an impressive 14-3 scoreline after just nine rounds, with 133 ADR.
The ninth round gave ATKs Swedish AWPer Jonathan "B0denmaster" Bodenmalm his first chance to get his hands on the big green gun and despite not finding the opening kill, the team managed to waltz out onto the B bombsite after Breno "brnz4n" Poletto missed his own AWP shots for the Brazilian side. A super aggressive CT setup in tunnels in the following round led the team to stack A which ATK walked into.
A big round from Michael "Swisher" Schmid kept the scoreline close to put them within two rounds before the final round of the first half. A classic pc crash led to the admins having to break out the fancy mobile phone case to allow b0den back into his steam, but after the short pause it was ATK who secured the final round and 7-8 scoreline. Which the NA side would be very satisfied with heading into the CT side.
ATK showed their dedication to preperation in the CT side pistol round with a stone-cold read on the Brazilian's pistol that gave them the gun advantage leading into the second round. Although they nearly lost to glocks after some over confidence, with Swisher needing to recover the round for the NA side.
MIBR managed to find space on short after ATK played a double-long setup but the Brazilian side failed to make the most of their map control, facing a complete shutdown by the CT side and causing the team to take a pause. MIBR tried to test MisteM on the B site but a well placed smoke allowed him to survive and cause enough of a nuisance to let his team come to his rescue.
Despite JOTA doing his best, ATK's preparation and skill gave them a flawless CT half and leave the NA team with the chance of major qualification in the 2-1 pool. Meanwhile, the legendary MIBR brand will face a uphill battle if they want to attend the first Major in their home nation.
