American joins Academy League Champions
For the first time since the founding of the WePlay Academy League, someone other than MOUZ NXT won the championship last month. Fnatic Rising took the spot at the influential academy league after dominating playoffs. However, despite that win, the Swedish organization are seemingly ready to bulk up their squad with a new AWPer with American roots.
Fnatic Rising's former sniper, Filip "DEPRESHN" Jarkić, has been sent packing after being the team's lowest-rated player during WePlay, putting up a modest 1.06 rating. As such, Fnatic Rising are seemingly set to look towards former ESCSTATIC and Secret Club player Adam "WolfY" Andersson, adding him to the team's ESEA roster on September 3rd.
While WolfY is best known for his time on ECSTATIC, before returning to Sweden, the American citizen played in North America extensively. In addition, WolfY was also targeted by Complexity earlier in the year before eventually choosing Norwegian AWPer Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli. WolfY, now 23 years old, would have to be Fnatic Rising's one age exception if they want to continue playing in the WePlay Academy League, which stipulates four players on the roster need to be between 16 and 21 years old.
While Fnatic nor WolfY have confirmed the move, the roster lock went into effect on September 4th, meaning the Swedish-American would have to play for Fnatic Rising to keep the spot.
If the roster remains unchanged until WePlay Academy League Season 6, WolfY will be the first North American player to take part in the tournament, with the tournament being largely European and South American teams.
With this change, Fnatic Rising's ESEA roster is:
-
Peppe "Peppzor" Borak
-
Matias "Banjo' Kivistö
-
Mikkel "Maze" Sparvath
-
Sebastian "volt" Malos
-
Adam "WolfY" Andersson
UPDATE
Update: Following the publication of this article, WolfY confirmed to Dust2.us that he will be playing with Fnatic Rising, but has not signed a contract at this time.
