Brazil bombs on day two of IEM Cologne
Two Brazilian teams went to battle today on the second day of Cologne to begin the Group B gauntlet. When the smoke settled, neither Americas representative mounted a single map win, with both teams ending 0-2 and being relinquished to the lower bracket trenches.
FURIA's woes continue
Both games started off the morning matches, giving fans a simultaneous treat of disappointment. For FURIA, there was much less to celebrate in their defeat. They immediately fell into a 0-5 hole on CT-side Nuke, much too many for that stage in the map. By the time they established themselves at all, it was too late. Astralis ran off with their pick and carried the momentum into Mirage.
FURIA were in better team form on their map pick of Mirage, but not good enough to stop the likes of Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke and Benjamin "blameF" Bremer who were surging on map two. The two stars combined for a 54-34 K/D which was too much for FURIA to overcome. Despite their best efforts, they fell 13-16 on Mirage, ultimately losing 0-2.
In defeat 00 Nation pulls positives
00 Nation gave fans much more to celebrate, as they were unafraid to answer the challenge of FaZe. On their pick of Ancient, they were successful in racking up five rounds on their T side before swapping sides. They kept it competitive on the CT-side as well but were eventually grinded out by FaZe on their map pick, 13-16.
Things were less cohesive on Inferno for 00 Nation. Their defensive efforts were picked apart by FaZe, only managing four rounds in the first half. Although they showed extreme promise on their T-side by winning more rounds than their opposition, there was no room for error after the 4-11 first half. FaZe eventually found their footing on the defensive side and closed the map 16-10.
We will see two more matches including Americas teams tomorrow, as Liquid vs 00 Nation and FURIA vs Outsiders will kick off the games in Group B's lower bracket at 06:30AM.
