Despite a strong performance from Grim, Complexity could not get it done against the Czechs

Complexity fall to SINNERS in Elisa Invitational Spring

Complexity's unfortunate streak in European events continues.

Complexity have been defeated by SINNERS 2-1 in the Elisa Invitational Spring 2022, an online European cup where Complexity received a direct invitation to the quarterfinals. This defeat follows a long string of lackluster results for the North American side, who have struggled to have good showings internationally.

The series kicked off on SINNERS pick of Vertigo, with Complexity starting things on the CT-side. Although SINNERS claimed the first pistol round, Complexity quickly responded with a dominant run in the first half, going on to eventually take an 8-2 lead. Things began to stall for the North American side in the latter portion of the half, but Complexity still came out on top with a solid 10-5 score.

Complexity quickly returned to their winning ways in the second half, snatching the second pistol round, as well as the subsequent two rounds, to post a 13-5 lead, putting them three rounds from stealing away SINNERS' pick. Despite this difficult lead to overcome, SINNERS proved to be resilient, putting together a large streak of rounds to keep things close. Although SINNERS put up a good fight, Complexity was eventually able to chip away the three rounds they needed, snagging SINNERS pick with a labored 16-13 scoreline.

Complexity's pick of Inferno proved to be a far more back-and-forth affair than Vertigo was. Complexity, starting on the T-side, claimed the first pistol round of the map but were quickly upset by SINNERS' second-round force buy. This led to an early bloodbath in the first half, with neither squad able to put together more than two rounds in a row. Despite a monstrous 1.71 T-side rating from Michael "Grim" Wince, SINNERS were able to wrest control of the half, stringing together four rounds towards the end of the half to eke out an 8-7 lead.

SINNERS kept their foot on the gas in the second half, locking down the first six rounds on their T-side off the back of a strong showing from AWPer David "forsyy" Bílý. While Complexity were eventually able to halt the streak with some rounds of their own, SINNERS only needed two more rounds to win Inferno, which they did shortly thereafter, claiming Complexity's pick 16-10.

A pistol-round win for Complexity was a nice way to kick off their T-side of the decider map of Overpass, but things would very quickly collapse for the North American squad. Impressive performances from Sebastian "beastik" Daňo and coach turned player Tomáš "Tomkeejs" Tomka led to an impenetrable defense for the Czechs, who charged ahead to an 11-2 lead. Complexity managed to snatch the last two rounds of the half, but they still had an incredibly tall task ahead of them in the second half.

Complexity managed to secure the second pistol as well, but they were able to get little done with it as they claimed only one additional round before SINNERS returned to their winning ways with three rounds of their own. Down 14-6, backs against the wall, Complexity began a respectable comeback effort, putting up four rounds in a row, before that streak was stifled by SINNERS claiming match point, 15-10. Complexity rallied some more rounds, but it wasn't enough to stop SINNERS from closing out the map 16-12, taking the series 2-1.
