Vintage FalleN performance powers Imperial into the Legends stage
The "no fnx, no major" meme lives to fight another day following Imperial's comfortable victory against Forze in their 2-2 game today, which sees them progress to the Legends Stage. Imperial's map pick of Overpass looked like a blowout, with Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo putting on a masterclass in calling, taking 11 rounds on the T-side of Overpass. The Brazilians could seemingly do no wrong in the first half, with FalleN seemingly having direct access to the mind of Andrey "Jerry" Mekhryakov, setting his squad up perfectly to find success.
The brief CT-side that was afforded to us was no different, with Forze only being able to pick up a single round after the 11-4 first half, with Fernando "fer" Alvarenga securing the 16-5 victory for Imperial with the final kill. While Forze looked inexperienced and taken aback throughout the entirety of the first map, take nothing away from the godfather of Brazilian Counter-Strike, who not only called a fantastic game but also lead by example with an 18-8 tally on the scoreboard and a server high 1.72 rating.
Map 2 of Mirage started off in the same way as the first map of Overpass, with Imperial storming out to a comfortable 5-1 lead, with Jerry and Aleksandr "zorte" Zagodyrenko failing to register a kill in the first 6 rounds. The CIS squad was not content with letting the Brazilians run away with their major dream without a fight, bringing it back to within a round at 6-5. Imperial would stabilize, however, and close out the half with a 10-5 lead heading into the T-side.
Forze looked fully defeated at the beginning of the second half, losing the pistol round and the follow-up with minimal resistance. The comfortable round wins would continue to roll for the remainder of the match, with Imperial closing out the game 16-5, with FalleN topping the leaderboard yet again with a 21-8 stat line.
Imperial will join the other fifteen teams in the Legends stage of the PGL Antwerp Major which kicks off on May 14th.
