MIBR eliminated from Antwerp after fall to Bad News Eagles
MIBR are out of the PGL Antwerp 2022 Major as the adored underdogs, Bad News Eagles, defeat them in their series 2-1. This leaves Imperial as the only South American team, out of the three in this stage, with a chance of qualifying. If Imperial qualifies they will join North America in having 50% of their teams at the Legends stage.
Early on into the first map, MIBR looked utterly defeated as Rigon "rigoN" Gashi led his team to an 11-4 half. However the Brazilians fought back as Jhonatan "JOTA" Willian had a massive impact and Marcelo "chelo" Cespedes' ability to get at least one kill at ramp completely halted BNE's momentum. It was a missed shot by Genc "gxx-" Kolgeci in a 1 v 1 that ended up being the nail in the coffin for BNE as MIBR ended the game with a 16-13 win.
In the second map, Bad News Eagles were victorious over MIBR on their choice of Ancient in a map that could not be described as hotly contested. Starting off on the offensive, the Kosovan boys jumped out to a 10-5 lead, making quick work of any Brazilian defense that was there. Following the side switch, MIBR simply could not string enough rounds together, especially after losing the second pistol. BNE made quick work as the map finished 16-8.
The game was forced to reach the third and final map, Vertigo where BNE jumped out to a similar first-half lead of 9-6 after trading rounds at streaks of three or less rounds between each other. Moving onto the CT-side for MIBR, they claimed the pistol and managed to convert the following two rounds but the Eagles found their strive again and won five more rounds in a row after that. The score was now 14-9 with MIBR only managing to claim a single defusal round win before being overwhelmed again and ultimately losing 16-10 thanks in large part to rigoN's standout 1.45 rating.
Bad News Eagles continue to the Legends Stage at Antwerp with a 3-2 swiss score here. Their opening match will be a BO1 versus Copenhagen Flames.
