Report: Cloud9 look to a suNny future
According to a report from HLTV.org, Cloud9 are looking to acquire Finnish rifler Miikka "suNny" Kemppi to fill out their roster. suNny would be replacing Jordan "Zellsis" Montemurro on the roster, with the American having been released earlier in the day.
suNny was one of three players who retained their starting spot on mousesports after the European team failed to secure qualification to the IEM Katowice Major in January after a 5-6th place finish in the Europe Minor. suNny has been with mousesports since August 2017, having signed from PENTA.
According to HLTV.org, the organizations have only so far taken exploratory talks towards a potential transfer for suNny, but Cloud9 has him high on their shortlist.
This would be the latest change for Cloud9, with the team recently welcoming back IGL Maikil "Golden" Selim after his period of illness. Golden's return also came as Robin "flusha" Rönnquist departed the roster, with the latter "step[ping] away from the game for the time being" after the passing of the player's mother just before the IEM Katowice Legends stage.
The fifth spot on the roster is not the only uncertain position Cloud9 find themselves in, with the identity of the coach still up in the air. Soham "valens" Chowdhury currently remains in the position but has stated that he intends to step down, with Ron "Rambo" Kim currently the leading replacement.
suNny joining the team would once again make Cloud9 a majority European roster. This move would leave Cloud9 as follows:
- Timothy "autimatic" Ta
- Will "RUSH" Wierzba
- Fabien "kioShiMa" Fiey
- Maikil "Golden" Selim
- Miikka "suNny" Kemppi
- Soham "valens" Chowdhury (Coach)
Cloud9 are next in action at BLAST Pro Series Miami, which is set to begin on April 12th.
