SK and Immortals go 1-0 in Malmö
The current #1 team in the world began their run at DreamHack Masters Malmö against B.O.O.T-dream[S]cape, the first $250K+ LAN for the Singaporean squad. The teams chose to play Mirage, one of SK’s best maps and a solid one for B.O.O.T too.
After a close first 3 rounds, SK went on the dominate the first half and racked up 13 rounds on their CT side. From the T side, SK simply won the pistol and the following two rounds to close out the map 16-2. Marcelo “coldzera” David and Gabriel “FalleN” Toldeo topped the leaderboards posting up ratings of 2.11 and 1.95 respectively.
Later on, major finalists Immortals took on a new Maikil “Golden” Selim-led Fnatic. The two teams ended up on Cobblestone, arguably the best map of Immortals, yet one not historically known for Fnatic.
Vito “kNgV-” Guiseppe led the charge for Immortals as they posted an impressive 10-5 CT half. After reaching 12 rounds, Immortals began to lose grip of the game as Robin “flusha” Rönnquist’s boys eventually took the lead at 13-12. However, due to an otherworldly performance by kNgV-, Immortals managed to pull it over the line and win 16-14.
Tomorrow, SK and Immortals will play against North and G2 respectively in best of 3 matches to decide who will advance to the playoffs. As one of the few teams who didn’t make changes, SK have the advantage of stability but can be readable. This match will help to reveal not only what level North are at with their new roster, but how SK will be able read Mathias “MSL” Lauridsen and adapt to their new style. Immortals, after going through some internal issues during the player break, have a large question mark above their head as to whether they can repeat their major run. The Brazilians will have a lot to prove against G2 if they wish to uphold their status as the 4th best team.
