Waves E-Gaming qualifier day 1: No stand-ins left standing
The first day of the Waves E-Gaming qualifier comes to a close with a bevy of upsets featuring most of the tournaments favorites. The likes of Excelerate, iNTACT, Vision and Fam143 are all absent from the semi-finals.
Excelerate took the first defeat before the Ro16 even began with a 19-17 loss to eventual quarter-finalists Simplify who featured Canadians Mario "MARIO" Wakim and Jonathon "djay" Dallal. Unfortunately Excelerate did have to resort to a stand-in due to a personal conflict for new trial member Keanu "DaneJoris" Reyes.
Vision were present in the event as well, but not for very long. They won their first Bo1 against LiViD, but took the L against BlackOut, who are under the banner of "cantwinalan" on the Swarmio website. Vision were also facing the woes of playing with new players Andy "vSa" Xu and Alex "aproto" Protopapas. While adept players in their own right, this iteration of the Vision roster haven't been playing with each other for very long.
The storyline of teams playing without their full lineup continued as iNTACT faced the same problems. Michael "Turismo" Haas was unfortunate enough to miss the event, leaving iNTACT to play with GT Academy player Scott "Scottiyio" Baker. The team lost a close 16-14 to DRAMA DOGS who would later go on to lose to Waves E-Gaming.
