Swole Patrol and Rogue eliminated in day 1 of ESL One New York Closed Qualifier
The first day of ESL One New York's Closed Qualifier has concluded, seeing compLexity, Luminosity, NRG, and Renegades forward to the final round of matchups tomorrow evening.
Luminosity and Swole Patrol both fell to the lower bracket early in the day with losses to compLexity and Rogue, respectively. The two top seeded teams, Renegades and NRG, awaited the above victors in the upper bracket semifinal.
The boys of Renegades had little trouble dispatching Spencer "Hiko" Martin's Rogue in their opening matchup, seeing two dominant first halves solidify large leads for Renegades on their T side.
Dust2 saw Noah "Nifty" Francis and co. go up 11-4 to start the series thanks to stellar opening kills from Karlo "USTILO" Pivac. Aided by Nifty's AWP, Renegades took firm control of the map, but struggled to extend their lead in the second half. Rough economic resets gave Rogue a small window back into the match, but after letting eight rounds slip by Renegades closed out map 1 with confidence.
Their T side didn't let up as the second map kicked off, putting up an even more dominant 12-3 showing on Train. Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad came to life to help his team closed out the map, leaving Rogue in the dust with a 16-3 finish.

With NRG and Renegades advancing to the upper bracket finals, Luminosity and Swole Patrol were left to face off against compLexity and Rogue to decide which teams would remain in the running for day 2.
Nuke was the first map between Swole Patrol and compLexity, with Austin "Cooper-" Abadir's side starting off as CT. It was Cooper- himself who shined to keep Swole Patrol toe-to-toe on both sides of the map against the EPL team, and a 10-5 half lead was the reward for his efforts.
Shahzeb "ShahZaM" Khan took control for compLexity on their CT side with his AWP, dismantling Swole Patrol outside at every turn. Swole Patrol managed one round early on in the half, but wouldn't snag another until compLexity had almost evened the score at 11-10. Cooper- once again came to life to single-handedly take a round back for Swole, leaving them enough room in the ensuing rounds to claim match point.
Once again ShahZaM showed his prowess with the AWP as he worked alongside the rest of compLexity to fight for overtime, granting the team another chance at a first map victory. His dominant performance continued into overtime, allowing compLexity to seize all four rounds and take Nuke back from being down 10-5 at the half and granting ShahZaM 10 opening kills in the map.
Cache also proved to be a close affair between the teams. This time it was Bradley "ANDROID" Fodor who stepped up for compLexity to take the win, although ShahZaM continued to contribute by finding eight opening kills throughout the course of the map. The EPL team also won all four of the 1vsX situations that they were faced with, seeing them just barely sneak through a map 2 victory with a 16-13 score.

While Swole Patrol and compLexity were busy in battle, the Brazilian side of Luminosity took on Rogue on Overpass, Train, and Cache.
Casper "cadiaN" Møller helped Rogue sneak through a first map victory on Overpass, denying a last ditch comeback attempt from Luminosity who had managed to even the score at 12-12 after losing the second half pistol round. The rest of the team performed reasonably well, but that wouldn't be enough as Train and Cache got underway.
Lucas "steel" Lopes and Henrique "HEN1" Teles came to life as the series drew on, with steel demonstrating his capabilties to shut down Rogue's CT side defenses. 10 rounds on the T side granted Luminosity a firm lead going into the second half, but a second half pistol win gave Rogue a chance to even the score.
The standard 3 rounds went the way of Rogue before Luminosity got back on the board, and it was here that steel and HEN1 combined to firmly shut the door on Rogue's hopes of a 2-0. The Brazilians closed out Train 16-8, leaving Rogue with no rounds after their trio from their pistol victory.
Cache was HEN1's playground as the AWPer truly came to life, demolishing Rogue's hopes and dreams of not just a 2-1 victory, but of making it to New York as a whole. A brutalizing 14-1 half gave way to a quick 16-2 finish for Luminosity, eliminating Rogue and keeping the Brazilians in the running.

cadiaN took to Twitter shortly after the team's match to express his discontent at having to play three best-of-three series in a row, resulting in a nine hour day for four of the teams competing in the closed qualifier.
Renegades and NRG are set to face off at 3 PM EDT in the upper bracket final to determine which team will claim a 1-0 advantage going into the best-of-five final matchup. While the two teams face off, Luminosity and compLexity will also play for a spot in the consolidation final, with the victor facing whichever team loses the bout between Renegades and NRG.
