Swole Patrol round out Americas Minor team list
Swole Patrol have advanced to the Americas Minor after a 2-0 win over Ghost in the final round of the Swiss system.
Although there were two series going on alongside Swole Patrol's match against Ghost, Ryan "freakazoid" Abadir and co. solidified their slot in London by taking down Ghost in two maps. Due to the Swiss system granting a total of eight victors, round difference and total number of maps won were used — among other metrics — to determine which of the final 3 teams would be awarded the slot.
A spreadsheet, developed by our very own Joe "tolkienfanatic" Cardali, showing the state of the bracket before the fifth round of games was concluded is below:
While Swole Patrol and Ghost faced off, oNe and boxr were playing in a rather pointless series — neither team would progress to the Americas Minor regardless of their result, pointing at flaws in the format for determining a sixth team.
Swole Patrol remained in firm control during their maps against Ghost, putting up two solid 10-5 first halves. Ghost were able to keep themselves competitive in the early portions of both halves, but once freakazoid and co. garnered an economic advantage the EPL team found themselves falling flat.
Without in-game leader Joshua "steel" Nissan behind them, Ghost were unable to recover from Swole Patrol's onslaught, leading to firm 16-8 finishes on both Cache and Overpass for the Patrol.
The teamlist for the Americas Minor has now been finalized, with Swole Patrol claiming the final qualification slot. The following eight teams are set to face off on July 7th in London as they face off for $50,000 and two slots at the FACEIT Major:
compLexity | NRG |
Dignitas | eUnited |
Rogue | Swole Patrol |
FURIA | NTC |
Swole Patrol, compLexity, Ghost, and FURIA are set to compete at ZOTAC Cup Masters Americas Regional Finals in Santa Ana on June 30th, with the winner claiming the lion's share of $20,000 and a spot at the $300,000 Grand Finals in Hong Kong.
