Torqued fall short against Gambit in Tours opener
The opening match of DreamHack Open Tours saw Torqued narrowly edged out by Gambit on Overpass in a 22-19 double overtime finish.
Gambit quickly, though with much resistance from Torqued, claimed the first four rounds of their T-side to take an early lead. With nearly all their players equipped with the notorious CZ-75, the North Americans stole away the CIS squad's momentum on an eco-round, which they went on to convert into five more to follow. While Gambit did manage to break Joshua "steel" Nissan and co.'s streak with an additional round of their own, it would ultimately be the last they would claim on their Terrorist-side, putting Torqued ahead, with a 10-5 lead before switching sides.
The second half began with a nail-biting pistol round and Torqued in a 2v1 situation, where Matt "Pollo" Wilson and Braxton "swag" Pierce did circles around Mihail "Dosia" Stolyarov as they ran the clock down with the bomb planted. After Dosia dispatched of Pollo behind the middle boxes, the run from bathrooms proved too time consuming for swag to stop the defuse, the beginning of Gambit's eight round streak. Torqued bounced back in the latter half of their T-side, however, stunning the CIS team in their tracks, as they took it to overtime. Unfortunately, after a neck-and-neck first overtime, the sole North American team at Tours eventually fell to Gambit 4-1 in the second.
Torqued's next match will be against the loser of GODSENT vs. AGO in the Group A elimination match tomorrow and can be viewed at https://www.twitch.tv/dreamhackcs.
