York win AVGL Spring Finals over Robert Morris
The team of York University has won the AVGL Spring 2018 Finals over Robert Morris University, winning the best of five 3-2 (16-8 Cobblestone, 14-16 Train, 16-7 Mirage, 11-16 Nuke, 16-14 Overpass).
Cobblestone was fairly straightforward for the York side, as after a 8-7 CT half, Alex "AGN" Niculae and Mike "Tennls" Meissner dominated the Terrorist side, leading to a 16-8 victory. Robert Morris had a far better Counter Terrorist side on Train and secured a 9-6 lead at the half. A comeback by the Canadians almost came to fruition, but Liam "Welshyy" Newhouse and RMU managed to grind out the last few rounds to win the second map 16-14.
Mirage began with complete domination by York University, winning 11 rounds in a row as CTs. RMU managed to win the last four rounds as well the first three of the next half, but York returned to easily shut down the American side, with John "crux" Cogal, Kyle "Kyroh" de Castro, and Tennls putting in good numbers.
The Americans of RMU weren't down and out yet however, as they kicked off Nuke with an 8-0 lead, finishing 9-6 at the half. Once again, it was Welshyy who led the team and eventually Robert Morris closed out map four 16-11, forcing a decider. Overpass was an extremely close affair, with RMU leading 14-13 at one point, but crux and his peers grinded out the victory, taking the map 16-14 and the series 3-2.
As a result, York University have won $5,000 while Robert Morris University will walk away with $3,000. RMU will however still attend the CSL Finals at the end of the month.
