NRG and Renegades stunned in ESL One Belo Horizonte qualifier
The first day of the ESL One Belo Horizonte Closed Qualifiers has finished, with Torqued and Rogue coming out on top in the Upper Bracket and compLexity and Bravado left to duke it out in the Lower Bracket to see who will advance further.
Massive upsets were seen in both the sides of the bracket for NRG and Renegades, leading to their early exit from the qualifier. Both teams not only received direct invites to the Closed Qualifiers, but also were granted the highest seeding, placing them straight into the semifinals of the Upper Bracket.
NRG first fell down to the Lower Bracket after a close 1-2 series against Torqued, an MDL team that has proven, as of late, that they are a force to be reckoned with. A possibly larger upset was seen as NRG were eliminated 0-2 by their EPL cohorts compLexity, who currently sit at a 6-12 record on the brink of relegation in the league.
The path to elimination for Renegades was eerily similar to that of NRG's. Their downward spiral began with a close 1-2 loss to Rogue in the Upper Bracket, a series that nearly went to all 30 rounds in each map. Interestingly, Rogue used Matthew "mCe" Elmore for the majority of the series against Renegades, with a follow-up tweet from the recently cut Dignitas IGL indicating that a coach role with the team may be on the horizon.
The Aussies dreams were then crushed by the South African team of Bravado, a Main team that recently emigrated to the US in hopes of advancing their CS:GO careers.
The remaining matches for the Closed Qualifier will be played out later today, the first of which will be between Torqued vs. Rogue in Winner's Finals, and compLexity vs. Bravado in Losers.
