Gfinity Winter Series: oNe and Armada advance in Lower Bracket
The third round of the Lower Bracket of the Gfinity Winter Series has concluded, with oNe and Armada as the victors after eliminating Glockoma and Impact in the CEVO Main playoff bracket.as
The first map between the oNe and Glockoma almost made this a three game series. As the two kicked things off on Train, oNe got off to a rocky start after losing the first four rounds of their T-side offense. For the remainder of the first half it was a tit-for-tat as the two exchanged strings of two and three rounds back and forth until an eventual 8-7 scoreline in favor of the Canadian team.
Once on their CT-side, oNe appeared to struggle in a similar fashion that they began the map with, losing the first three rounds. After stabilizing their economy they went on a tear until they closed out the map 16-12 in their favor.
The second and final map in the series saw the two teams on the recently updated Nuke. Revitalized after their first map victory, oNe made short work of Glockoma in the first half on their CT-side. Only able to pick-up a cummulative three rounds total on their offense, the Canadians had an almost insurmountable hill to climb come the half.
Their unforgiving round deficit led to their eventual downfall, despite their efforts. oNe claimed the second map and the series 2-0.
Armada all but ran away with the first map in their series against Impact as they began things with a massive 13-2 round lead on their T-side of Mirage. Little can be done for any team facing such a heavy deficit, and Impact was no exception. While they did fire back with a strong display on their offensive side, Armada was able to eventually squeeze out the remaining rounds they needed to close it out 16-8.
Swapping over to Cache, Impact's choice, it was as if we were watching a replay of the prior map. Armada's CT-side defense was like an impregnable fortress that Impact couldn't make a dent in. Come the half, Armada had yet another commanding lead over their opposition 11-4.
If this series taught us anything, it's that Impact plays best with their backs against the wall. They fought back with resiliency, slowly grinding out strings of two and four rounds until the bitter end, where their deficit finally caught up to them. Armada closed out the map and series in a narrow 16-14 finish.
The next set of matches to be played in the Gfinity CS:GO Winter Series will see oNe vs. ex-Etherian and Armada vs. Most Wanted, two teams recently knocked down from the Upper Bracket, on April 12th at 9:00 PM EDT.
