Vega Squadron chop through the waves of Liquid
In the next knockout match, it was Liquid to take on Vega Squadron. With the losing team going home, the two teams had it all to play for on Inferno.
The Russian side began their T-side off on the front-foot, comfortably picking up the pistol round before following on with the following anti-ecos. They followed it up with the first buy round, sending their opponents to an eco. From there Liquid kicked it up a notch, taking four rounds straight, in part thanks to a 4k from Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski, to keep theirselves in the game.
But Vega weren't letting Liquid back in. Sergey "keshandr" Nikishin comfortably secured round after round to keep their advantage in hand. With Dmitriy "jR" Chervak taking multiple kills in multiple rounds, he was pivotal in keeping his team ahead of their opposition. The Russian side kept going for an 11-4 half time lead.
The second half kicked off differently, with Liquid taking the pistol round on their T-side. They followed it up with the next two anti-ecos and the first buy round, and from there it was a flood of rounds for Liquid. With Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken showing off his young skill throughout the rounds, his team went from being seven rounds down to evening the game up 11-11.
But Vega weren't to go out just yet. keshandr took three names for himself to keep his team ahead. Liquid managed to secure one further round, but Vega came back and took the rounds required. Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov chopped his way through waves of Liquid players with an ace, before seeing the game end as 16-12 winners.
This result sees Vega go to the 2-2 bracket, where they'll compete later today. Alas, Liquid's exit leaves Cloud9 as the lone American side left standing in the event. Next up will be the 2-1 game between Gambit and SK.
