Valve shut down popular Classic Offensive mod
Classic Offensive, the mod that promised to bring elements of classic CS games such as Counter-Strike 1.6 into CS:GO, has been removed from Steamworks. This spells serious problems for this community project, whose Steam Group has over 40,000 members.
The Classic Offensive creators had been working on the mod for almost eight years and according to them, they had Valve's permission until this point.
"We do not understand what happened, we went through Steam Greenlight back in 2017, talked to legal to know if this was possible for us to release on Steam," the Classic Offensive team said in an official statement.
According to the Classic Offensive team, Steamworks had told them to finish the build before releasing it, but now that the project has been finalized, they can't publish it anymore on Steam. They claim that Valve never told them to stop during all these years.
"We now feel required to tell any modding team related to Valve projects to reconsider what they're doing if their sole way of releasing is through Steam, especially multiplayer mods, as they will probably get rejected the way we did."
The news left the CS community confused as a lot of players had been waiting years to play Classic Offensive and the fact that Counter-Strike was born as a Half-Life mod back in June 1999.
For now, the Classic Offensive team has stopped working on the project while they try to get in contact with Valve again. Valve hasn't released a statement about this situation as of the time of publication.
