Obvious choices for the Hall of Fame

Swedish quartet to be inducted into HLTV's Hall of Fame

Four players with history in NIP are joining the Hall of Fame.

Ahead of the fourth-annual HLTV Awards show on January 11th, HLTV have announced the first four inductees to HLTV's CS Hall of Fame, with Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg, Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund, Emil "HeatoN" Christensen, and Tommy "Potti" Ingemarsson all set to be honored in Belgrade.

The awards aim to induct three to five retired players and coaches per year, with the selection committee each voting for five players in a ranked choice voting system. While HLTV did not reveal the final tallies, they noted that the four Swedes set to be inducted were significantly ahead of the other players up for deliberation.

f0rest and GeT_RiGhT were obvious choices for the Hall of Fame as the long-time NIP duo made immense contributions to the game while playing together on Fnatic, SK, and NiP during the latter half of CS 1.6's history and for a number of years in CS:GO. NiP's 87-0 win streak also helped to define and shape the narrative of CS:GO during its first years and their win at the ESL One Cologne Major 2014 further cemented f0rest and GeT_RiGhT's legendary status even as they approached the twilight of their careers at the end of CS:GO

HeatoN and Potti are superstars in their own rights for their contributions as competitors at the beginning of CS esports, with the previous generation's Swedish duo winning five of CS' unofficial Majors, including the scene's first true global finals at CPL Winter Dallas 2001. Beyond that, Potti's role as the founder of the storied NIP organization has continued to shape the Swedish CS and beyond for years after he hung up the mouse as a player in 2006.

While these four Swedes are set to join the Hall of Fame this year, HLTV noted anyone who missed out can potentially join the Hall of Fame in years to come with the list likely expanding as the transition into CS2 is likely to signal a generation shift in the global CS scene
