PW Shanghai Major Day Two Recap: Liquid locks in, Complexity stay alive, Wildcard falters

Liquid makes it look easy.

The Perfect World Shanghai Major Opening Stage wrapped up its second day yesterday, with all teams competing in the third round of the Swiss stage. It was another mixed bag off results for North America, as one team secured advancement with a perfect 3-0 record, while the other two sit on the edge of elimination.

Before day three and round four both begin, let's look at the day two results.

World Liquid survive FlyQuest scare, advance with 3-0 record

Liquid became the first team to advance from the Opening Stage, but it most definitely was not as easy as it sounds. Both their day one best-of-one matches were won by close margins, and yesterday's series against FlyQuest started inauspiciously with a one-sided loss on Inferno.

But Justin "jks" Savage's standout Anubis performance was the difference maker against his fellow countrymen, and Liquid absolutely dominated FlyQuest on Nuke, posting a 12-0 CT-side half en route to a 13-1 victory. Liquid is on to the Elimination Stage.

World Wildcard miss golden opportunity against FURIA

Wildcard played another best-of-one yesterday, but the NA roster that pleasantly surprised fans at the RMR missed a crucial chance.

On Vertigo, Wildcard got up to 12-7 lead against the top-rated Brazilian team, but their inexperience showed as they were unable to close out the map, giving up five straight rounds to FURIA to force overtime. In OT, Wildcard came up just short again, falling 16-14 and missing out on the chance to start best-of-three play with a 2-1 record.
