First round matchups for Perfect World Shanghai Major Opening Stage revealed

The first round best-of-one matchups for the Perfect World Shanghai Major's Opening Stage have been announced, with teams seeded by regional performance in the previous Major.

Here are the first round matchups in the Opening Stage, based on the Valve Regional Standings, according to HLTV:

• FURIA v. GamerLegion

• Virtus.pro v. MIBR

• Liquid v. Cloud9

• Complexity v. FlyQuest

• BIG v. Passion UA

• fnatic v. Wildcard

• The MongolZ v. Rare Atom

• paiN v. Imperial

Liquid has drawn Cloud9, an organization who's sole Major victory came when the team competed with a North American roster, at the ELEAGUE Boston Major in 2018. Both Liquid and Cloud9 went 3-1 after dropping their first map in their respective RMRs.

Complexity will face off against FlyQuest, who reached the Major after going on a lower bracket run in the Asia-Pacific RMR. FlyQuest is led by accomplished IGL Christopher "dexter" Nong, who led MOUZ to the semifinal of the IEM Rio Major in 2022.

Wildcard, who surprised many by going 3-0 at the Americas RMR, has drawn the international roster playing for Fnatic. While Fnatic has struggled significantly in recent years, the organization won three Majors between 2013 and 2015, with two-time winner Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson still on the roster after almost a full decade with the team.

The Opening Stage of the Perfect World Major will begin November 30, and both round one and two will conclude by the end of day one.
