FlyQuest RED exit ESL Impact League S6 Finals after close losses
FlyQuest RED have been eliminated from the ESL Impact League Season 6 in joint last place following two close losses at the Stockholm LAN. The defeat of NA's sole team at the ESL Impact League Season 6 Finals continues FlyQuest RED's struggle to find success in international competitions despite coming close on multiple occasions, with the squad missing out on playoffs for the third season in a row.
FlyQuest RED's opening match in Stockholm saw the team face off against Fluxo Demons in a Bo1 on Anubis. The opening half saw FlyQuest RED start off trailing 0-3 on their T-side before evenly matching the Brazilians to close the gap 6-6 at the half. This would lead into FlyQuest RED being the first to find double digits and climb up to a 10-6 scoreline before Fluxo Demons ran away with the second half, winning the next seven rounds in a row to win Anubis 13-7 and force FlyQuest RED into the Group A elimination match.
The elimination match would see FlyQuest RED have to play NAVI Javelins who themselves had just come off of a close loss to Imperial fe in their opening matchups. The series began on Inferno, with NAVI Javelins starting off their T-side with a confident 5-0 lead before slowing down to a more modest 8-4 lead at halftime. After switching sides, NAVI Javelins won their CT pistol and the following round to climb up to a 10-4 lead before FlyQuest RED won the next to close the gap to 10-9. This ultimately to be too little too late on Inferno as Marta "D7" Asensio led her team to secure the map 13-9.
Moving onto Mirage, FlyQuest RED started off the map in a far better position as they began their T-side up 6-0 before some post-plant wins from NAVI Javelins allowed the European team to end the half down a single round with a 5-7 scoreline. After switching sides, NAVI Javelins had the making of a 2-0 win as they won the first five rounds in a row to take the lead on Mirage before FlyQuest RED averted losing their map pick by rallying to win the map 13-11.
With the series tied, Dust2 had the making of a close game in the first half as NAVI Javelins and FlyQuest RED battled to a 6-6 half thanks to a mid-half rally by the NA squad. However, the chances for FlyQuest RED to continue their run were quickly snuffed out as a near-perfect 7-1 T-side from NAVI Javelins allowed them to take Dust 13-7 and send FlyQuest RED home.
FlyQuest RED will now need to watch the remainder of the Stockholm LAN from the sidelines as Imperial fe prepare to fight for their sixth Impact title in a row.
