PGL Bucharest 2025 NA Qualifier reaches final four
The massive 32-team PGL Bucharest 2025 NA Qualifier has reached its final stage, with only four teams left in the running for North America's sole qualifier spot in the Romanian LAN. The winner of this final stage will join Liquid in being North America's representatives at the $625,000 event.
The final stage of the qualifier is set to start tonight, with Wildcard, Complexity, Nouns, and BLUEJAYS being the four teams left standing at the moment.
Group A
Group A of the qualifier saw Wildcard top the upper bracket as can be expected, with the team making quick work of Davai Napadai, MCS, and Vagrants. Meanwhile the lower bracket of Group A ended up seeing the surprising results of the whole qualifier as Marsborne were knocked out in a shock upset to Fisher College after being sent there earlier by Vagrants.
This opened the field greatly, with Fisher College continuing to impress as they bested MIGHT and Vagrants in quick succession to meet Wildcard in the Group A finals. Ultimately this showdown ended up being somewhat anticlimactic as Wildcard made quick work of Fisher College, however they collegiate team should be proud of making it that far.
Group B
In Group B, Complexity topped the upper bracket with relatively little trouble outside of a few close maps; besting Aether, Take Flyte, and Chill Guys 2-0. They would eventually be met in the finals in a rematch against Chill Guys, with the ESL Challenger League Season 49 team ultimately proving to be little challenge for Johnny "JT" Theodosiou and co.
Group C
Down in Group C, Party Astronauts impressed with recent additions Matthew "d4rty" Paplawskas and Diego "sacrifice" Camacho by topping the upper bracket over BLUEJAYS in a close series, proving Ben "ben1337" Smith and co. shouldn't be relegated to the history books despite earlier drama.
However, when push came to shove for BLUEJAYS, the team ultimately bounced back in the lower bracket, winning a surprisingly close series against Mythic before meeting Party Astronauts once again in the finals. Showing their resolve as a team, BLUEJAYS would ultimately come out on top in this match with the team dominating on Ancient before winning a close overtime game on Dust2 to top Group C.
Group D
Over in Group D, Getting Info topped the upper bracket thanks to two forfeits from Wanted Goons and LAG alongside an easy win against InControl. They would be met in the finals by Nouns, who had to crawl their up the lower bracket after shockingly losing their opening match to Mexican squad MarcaRegistrada. After being sent there, Nouns had to best Straight2Killin, InControl, MarcaRegistrada, and LAG for a shot at Getting Info.
When the two teams met, a close series ultimately went the way of Nouns, with Jaxon "Peeping" Cornwell leading the charge for his team as Nouns bested Getting Info 2-0.
With the group done and dusted, the following matches will happen tonight:
-
Wildcard v. Nouns
@ 07:00PM
-
BLUEJAYS v. Complexity
@ 10:00PM
These matches will be followed by a Bo5 on Monday to decide which team is headed to PGL Bucharest 2025.
