Shimmer win debut ESL Impact Cash Cup with Fawx
Last week Shimmer picked up former Lotus player Lydia "Fawx" Dalton to replace Cecelia "Celia" Caton on the orgless lineup. Despite the new addition, Shimmer seem to have not lost a step as the Impact squad topped last weekend's ESL Impact Cash Cup 2024: North America #20, winning their fourth ESL Impact Cash Cup in a row.
This iteration of the long-running ESL Impact Cash Cup Series saw a small turnout of four teams, with squads like Blue Otter Karma, Unjustified Impact, and FLUFFY MAFIA seemingly skipping it while FlyQuest RED is also currently out of the country bootcamping for the ESL Impact League Season 6 Finals. With that in mind, Shimmer came into the $1,000 event as heavy favorites, starting their run by demolishing a mixteam named colon_3 13-0 on Nuke and 13-2 on Mirage.
On the other side of the bracket, Lotus made equally quick work of the Peruvian Equity lineup, smashing the South American squad 13-4 on Ancient and 13-1 on Mirage.
With these matches settled, the finals began with Shimmer striking the first blow as expected with a 13-5 win on Nuke before closing out the series with a 13-5 win on Mirage. As can be expected, Lucy 'empathy' Verkaik was utterly dominant in the series, posting a 2.21 rating with 128.6 ADR and 48 kills as her squad grabbed the $750 top prize.
Outside of the Impact scene, Shimmer have also been having a good time in ESEA Main Season 51, with the squad boasting a 9-2 record as they aim to make their way into Advanced next year.
