Nouns upset NRG for Shanghai RMR invite
After an incredible three-map series, Nouns have qualified for the Americas RMR after beating NRG. Nouns are just the second squad who have secured their tickets to China, as Wildcard beat BOSS earlier today.
Both NRG and Nouns hope to improve on their previous RMR record, where they exited the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024 Americas RMR winless. While only Nouns have secured a spot so far, NRG will advance with a win in the next round, not needing to play in the 4th/5th place decider.
The series started with Anubis, picked by NRG. He struggled on the CT side early on but recovered, as Nouns reached halftime with a 7-5 score after leading 7-3 at one point. NRG managed to tie at 7 a piece before Nouns got to 10, and then it was the Timothy "automatic" Ta show, as he propelled NRG to a 13-10 win, taking the series lead.
Nouns would reply with a solid Ancient pick. The DAO-backed organization kicked the map off with a 6-0 T-side lead and would switch to the CT-side with a 10-2 advantage. NRG managed to win the pistol round and three more, but the damage was done and Nouns tied the series with a 13-6 win on Ancient.
Nouns would continue showing good form, as the Mirage decider began with them leading 6-1. NRG managed to claw back to a 6-5 deficit as Nouns maintained a 7-5 lead going into the second half. NRG grabbed the second-half pistol round and two more rounds, taking an 8-7 lead, but Nouns would show yet another solid T-side as they took a 13-9 win to claim the series victory.
This result sees Nouns secure their tickets to China, while NRG will face the highest seed advancing from the 1-1 bracket Bo3 series, which features teams such as Legacy and Party Astronauts. Those two teams and six more will join the servers next in an elimination series.
