Valve adds community maps Thera, Mills, and more in latest update
It's not an operation, or a new case, but it seems that some of the leaks were correct as Valve has added multiple community-made maps into Arms Race, Deathmatch, and Competitive. Along with the addition of four new maps, Valve have also also pushed an update of competitive ranks as well as video settings.
One of the more highly anticipated maps to reach the community is Shawn "FMPONE" Snelling's Thera, which is a reimagined version of the CS:GO map Santorini modeled on the picturesque Greek city. The map has been popular in the community and comes from one of Counter-Strike's best map makers who also gave us Cache.
The map has been released in Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch mode along with Mills which was made by "catfood", one of the creators of CS:GO's iteration of Tuscan. Mills is set in a picturesque, if claustrophobic, Netherlands village.
Other maps included in the update are Memento, Assembly, and Pool Day. The former two are Wingman maps which fans will enjoy after the stale offerings within the gamemode, while Pool Day is a new Arms Race setting based on the iconic CS 1.6 deathmatch map.
Another creative channel has been an adjustment to the round MVP award given out to players. Animated MVP panels in Premier matches are specific to certain round-winning actions such as an Ace, most kills in the round, and more.
Finally, there was a major adjustment to the map-specific skill group in competitive matchmaking as the number of wins needed was reduced from ten to just two, helping players find their per map rank far quicker than before.
