phzy has made a name for himself with the likes of NIP and Sangal

Report: Wildcard closing in on Swedish duo

Wildcard have continued to target international players to improve their NA roster.

Multiple sources have informed Dust2.us and Dust2 Sweden that Wildcard is set to add Swedish duo Love "phzy" Smidebrant and Tim "susp" Ångström in an ambitious move that sees the organization bring in international elements. In the duo's place, Wildcard to part ways with recent addition Adam "Grizz" Golden and AWPer Keller "SLIGHT" Nilan, who is the final remaining piece from the roster Wildcard entered CS:GO with in April 2023.

Dust2.us understands that negotiations for phzy have been on-going for approximately a month with susp coming into the fold later on. Both players have strong international pedigrees with phzy spending time in the NIP organization, Sangal, and most recently Asian squad Rare Atom. susp has been a revelation in the recent months as part of a Metizport team that burst onto the scene during the spring 2024 season.

Wildcard will continue to represent the North American region with Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz and Josh "JBa" Barutt, with the squad also retaining South African rifler Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek. The organization will remain located in North America and can represent the region in the Americas RMR in accordance with Valve's rules regarding the home base of the lineup.

Additionally, because the squad no longer has a regional majority, they can pick which region to represent with the two North Americans, two Europeans, and one African player who would belong to the Asian region for the RMR process.

Dust2.us has reached out to Wildcard for comment on the story, but did not hear back by the time of publication.

Wildcard is set to consist of:

  • Canada Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz

  • United States Josh "JBa" Barutt

  • Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek

  • Sweden Love "phzy" Smidebrant

  • Sweden Tim "susp" Ångström

  • Brazil João "horvy" Horvath (Coach)

He played on metizport and did pretty ok but wasn't quite good enough to stick around

This could be very interesting, though I hate to see SLIGHT kicked from the team. I doubt he will remain without a team for long though.

Wouldn't say this is the upgrade they might think it is but an upgrade nonetheless. Hoping to see Stanislaw back in Tier 1 so if this is what it takes then I'm all for it but the Wildcard roster was already on a good trajectory as it is so I hope this doesn't set them back.
