floppy: "It feels like I've been banging my head against the wall at some of these events"

It was a strange season for Complexity, filled with ups and downs, but they can safely say they ended the first half of 2024 at the summit of it all, winning a trophy. It's not the biggest event in the world, but coming out on top of a strong ESL Challenger Jönköping, Complexity are slowly proving that their late 2023 form was not a fluke and they can truly hang with the big boys.

After the event, Dust2 Sweden spoke with Ricky "floppy" Kemery about his individual form, how he's feeling after finally lifting a trophy for Complexity, and what it all means to him.

Winners of ESL Challenger Jönköping, the first Complexity trophy in fourteen years. How does it feel?

It feels good. Especially after poor individual form from me this season. I'm really happy to end it off like that. EliGE after that 9-12 round that he got us, that was just insane. After that, you just can't lose after a round like that. That was so sick.

Your season has been up-and-down. Does it feel good to end it on such a high note?

It feels great. This is the first normal LAN I've won. It's a really, really good feeling. Putting in all this time and effort, grinding with the team, it feels really good.

Is that an extra emotional thing for you? Having a big first event?

Yeah, absolutely. It feels like I've been banging my head against the wall at some of these events, just being the runner-up or making 3rd or 4th, so it's a really good feeling.

You started off strong in CS2 with two finals in a row, then slowed down a bit. Now you have a trophy, not the biggest in the world, but a trophy. What's changed from the beginning to CS2 to the down period, to winning a trophy here?

I think the main thing is that since the game was so new, everybody was learning everything and we just happened to have a good start to the game. At that point, everybody is watching you and how you play so you're just gonna get hard-countered inevitably. Obviously I have to make the adaptations towards whatever is happening in front of me, so unfortunately I just had a really poor individual season, but I'm trying my best to play better so we can win more tournaments.

Complexity now have some time to rest as the season has finished. It's a good end to the season for them after a frustrating few events where they can take home their first trophy in years.
