FaZe takes lead in Intel Grand Slam race
FaZe have been one of the most dominant teams in the Counter-Strike 2 era as they made their eighth final in a row at IEM Chengdu. Winning the Chinese event also had the added bonus of putting themselves in sole position of first place in the hunt for the 5th edition of the Intel Grand Slam.
Ironically, FaZe are also the holders of the current Intel Grand Slam which they claimed after winning ESL Pro League Season 17 in March 2023. To win the event they also claimed IEM Cologne 2022, ESL Pro League Season 15, and IEM Katowice 2022.
Now, the European squad is once again in the hunt thanks to their wins at IEM Sydney 2023 over Complexity and their most recent win at IEM Chengdu 2024. Spirit, MOUZ, G2, Falcons, and Vitality are also nipping at their heels with one win each.
FaZe has only seven remaining tournaments to claim their next two wins and take home another set of gold bricks. Their next opportunity to add to their tally is at ESL Pro League Season 19 in Malta, with IEM Dallas 2024 and IEM Cologne 2024 as opportunities later this summer.
Liquid is the only North American roster to have ever won the Intel Grand Slam, having completed four events back-to-back-to-back-to-back in a first of its kind.
The current standings for the Intel Grand Slam Season 5 Race is:
#1: FaZe - Two Wins, Seven Chances Left
#2: Spirit - One Win, Eight Chances Left
#3: MOUZ- One Win, Six Chances Left
#4: G2 - One Win, Five Chances Left
