RBG edge past Recon 5 to qualify for DreamHack Open March
RBG have secured the final spot in DreamHack Open March, defeating Recon 5 on Saturday in the Closed Qualifier's consolidation final to complete the team list for the $70,000 event.
Colby "Walco" Walsh and company started the series off on the back foot as Recon 5 opened up Inferno with a string of four CT rounds; however, RBG were swift to stabilize, rallying back to a 10-5 scoreline at halftime thanks to strong showings from Walco and Jerric "wiz" Jiang. The second half kicked off in similar fashion, with Recon 5 closing the gap to 12-11, but once again Walco's side remained resilient at the end of the half as they locked down their defense to take a 16-12 victory.
Nuke, Recon 5's map pick, saw the inverse scenario unfold as it was RBG who were initially up 7-1 before David "cynic" Polster's troops closed the gap, managing to post six rounds by the break. it seemed as if RBG would make quick work of things as they rapidly pushed up to match point in the second half, posting a 15-8 lead, but Recon 5 kept themselves in contention and fought back to fourteen rounds before ultimately conceding the map on round 30, losing the series 0-2.
RBG join Extra Salt as the two teams to advance to the main event out of the Closed Qualifier, with the complete team list for DreamHack Open March looking as follows:
Liquid | Triumph |
Bad News Bears | paiN |
High Coast | Rebirth |
Extra Salt | RBG |
DreamHack Open March is set to run from March 10-14, and will utilize a GSL group stage to determine which four teams will advance to the single-elimination playoffs.
