GET Rio uninvite ex-Preasy after org drops team
On April 1st, Danish organization Preasy dropped their Counter-Strike 2 roster which featured the likes of Ismail "referzh" Ali and Fredrik "roeJ" Christensen citing financial issues within the organization. While many would assume it was a crude April Fools' Day joke, once the smoke cleared it was confirmed that the HLTV top 40 squad was now homeless after just recently losing Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen to Falcons.
Now to make matters even worse, the ex-Preasy squad just found out today they have also lost the opportunity to attend the GET Rio de Janeiro 2024 LAN, with the team being replaced by paiN. This change was seemingly a complete rug pull for ex-Preasy, as head coach Daniel "Vorborg" Vorborg stated that the tournament organizer did not inform them before announcing their replacement.
According to a comment provided by CBGE, the organizer of the event, to Dust2 Brasil the TO signed a contract with each team to send a roster to this event. Following Preasy's decision to release their lineup yesterday, the spot remained with the organization, who intended to send their academy team to Brazil. CBGE found this arrangement unacceptable and revoked Preasy's invite thus clearing the way for paiN to be invited as a replacement.
CBGE also remarked that they were interested in having an orgless team attend the event, thus extending an invite to ex-Preasy was not possible. Regardless of the reason, the ex-Preasy squad are undoubtedly aggrieved by this situation as a strong LAN showing in Rio would go a long way in eliciting interest from a potential new organization.
The team list for GET Rio 2024 is now:
• FURIA
• Imperial
• MIBR
• paiN
• 9z
• Metizport
• Monte
• OG
GET Rio 2024 is set to start on April 14th and will feature a $200k prizepool.
