JT on Vitality loss: "We're so close to making playoffs and we just let it go"
After a 2-0 start to the PGL Major Copenhagen Elimination Stage, Complexity were on top of the world, with the organization seemingly set to make their first top eight since the FACEIT London Major 2018. However, since then the road has become considerably more fraught with peril as Complexity have conceded series to MOUZ and Vitality and now sit in the 2-2 pool.
With this, Complexity will now need to face FaZe Clan should they wish to make the big stage at the Copenhagen Major. Following their loss to Vitality earlier in the day, Dust2.us' Ryan Friend discussed the loss with Complexity IGL Johnny "JT" Theodosiou, the team's attitude change from yesterday, and their hopes for tomorrow, among other topics.
Tough way to lose the series against Vitality. Can you talk me through Inferno as the team seemed exceptionally strong on that map despite that not being one of your better maps?
It was a close game and played pretty well, but the inexperience on the map got to us in the end. We had a very good game plan coming into it, but some of the rounds that we should've closed we didn't and they ended up taking it in the end.
What were you preparing for on Inferno, were you expecting that pick to come out of Vitality?
We were expecting the pick and we game planned for it and obviously, nothing unusual in terms of the plan, our normal game plan.
A lot more energy coming out of the team today compared to yesterday, was that something the squad was working on last night?
We spoke about the game yesterday, we weren't being creative at all and we weren't communicating things that were happening across the map well enough yesterday. So today we just came in loose, energetic, communicating as much as we can, and trying to be creative. We ended up playing pretty well but we can play even better than this honestly.
Going from that Inferno map into Vertigo, do you think that communication helped the team as you bounced back?
We stayed confident because we knew Inferno was going to be hard for us. They're a really great Inferno team but we're strong on the other two maps and we knew we still had a good shot so we didn't let Inferno get us down. We continued that momentum into Vertigo and Anubis.
What can you tell me about the loss on Anubis?
It's hard to say why it didn't come together, maybe a bit of inexperience from the team. We're so close to making playoffs and we just let it go. I have to look back and see the mistakes or the calls that we made, but I didn't feel like our usual Anubis T-sides.
Anubis was interesting because it seems like there was a lack of mid presence by either team and when there was, Vitality took advantage of that. Is that something you're going to try and examine?
It's just Anubis, that was just that specific game and the next game could be completely different, I can't really tell you.
Tomorrow in the 2-2 pool, your opponent will be either G2 or FaZe. How is the team going to prepare for that tough matchup?
We knew when we made Legends we'd only be facing good teams. These are the top 16 teams in the world and after those first two wins we knew everyone in the 2-0 and 2-1 pool were going to be really strong teams. We're one of those strong teams too so we want to make sure we can win tomorrow and make the playoffs. We're in really good form right now and we have a really good chance of making it.
Complexity will be taking on FaZe Clan tomorrow at 08:00AM.
