JT: "The format for this tournament was terrible"
Complexity have secured their place at the PGL Copenhagen Major, but it did not come easy. This was the second time the Americas region faced a five-team qualification path at the RMR. This time it was significantly harder due to new rules regarding seeding as well as the revamp of several regional rosters.
For the American squad, they had to play both Liquid and FURIA despite being one of the highest ranked teams at the event. While the squad lost to FURIA, they secured a come-from-behind win against Liquid to shock the world. After that win, Daniel "Scoobster" Khurgin spoke with Johnny "JT" Theodosiou about the win, the format, and how Complexity are preparing for the next step.

You guys dominated Liquid on both Anubis and Overpass. How did that come to fruition?
Honestly I'm surprised Liquid went for Overpass for a third map. EliGE actually predicted it because he thought that they thought we would pick it, but I'm surprised they went for because they're really good maps for us, when they gave it to us we thought it was going to be even easier for us. So I'm happy with that.
We just outplayed them with our teamplay, they're obviously great players but I think right we've been a team for a longer time and our teamplay was just above theirs on the maps that we won.
It's unfortunate that you had to play Liquid in the 2-1 match at the very end of the event. Do you think either you, or them, or both, were disadvantaged by the seeding for the event?
Yeah, the format for this tournament was terrible to be honest. We shouldn't be playing Swiss System for five teams going through firstly. Secondly, the seeding was all messed up and they haven't been updated for three months. In general, if there's so few teams going through, we shouldn't be using Swiss at all.
In Europe it works well because there's a lot of teams qualifying but for our region it doesn't make sense especially with the messed up seeding Valve Ranking made us use.
Immediately before the interview we informed you that Complexity have grabbed the Legends Spot. How does that make you feel?
I just found out right now, but it makes me happy and it's the first time we get the Legends, or whatever its called now, Spot and it's big for us to get some extra practice in before the second stage of the Major and it is really going to be worth our while.
Given your practice against NA teams and your play against them, do you think that the teams the Americas region has sent will be able to retain our five spots?
I don't even remember who else qualified but we should be able to retain them. FURIA are definitely going to make it to the next stage, but we'll need to see what happens at the Major.
The Americas region is becoming a lot better and there's a lot of improvement throughout the region both Brazil and the US region. They've been trending upwards so if not now, maybe the next time we might get some extra spots.
