ESEA Autumn Cash Cup 4 to end with Brazilian showdown
paiN and Yeah have advanced to the grand final of the fourth ESEA Autumn Cash Cup, prevailing 2-1 in the semifinals over Depth and ex-Cloud9, respectively.
Depth got off on the right foot in their series against paiN, initially pulling ahead 8-7 at halftime on their pick of Train before taking control on the defense, giving up only four rounds en route to a 16-11 victory. Depth maintained momentum at the onset of Nuke as they led 4-1, but were quickly left out of sorts as the Brazilian roster scored eleven T-side rounds in a row for a dominant lead at the side swap. A brief comeback effort saw Depth claw back to a 10-13 scoreline, but paiN remained resilient to tie up the series score with a 16-11 map win of their own.
The Inferno decider was just as one-sided as paiN once again dominated on the attack, posting another 11-4 lead at the break. A pistol victory offered Depth brief respite as they converted against paiN's subsequent force-buy and eco, but once Rafael "saffee" Costa and company had rifles in their hands, the map was brought to a swift 16-7 finish.
The series between Yeah and ex-Cloud9 was a hard-fought one, kicking off on the Brazilian team's pick of Inferno. An initial 7-2 lead for Yeah gave way to a one-round gap between the two sides by halftime, with Eduardo "dumau" Wolkmer helping his team get off on the right foot in the second half to once again pull ahead, 13-8. A comeback effort from ex-Cloud9 saw the two teams fight into overtime, and it was there that Yeah prevailed, edging out a 22-19 win thanks in part to dumau's 38-27 K-D.
An almost inverse scenario unfolded on Nuke as it was ex-Cloud9 who took an early 8-2 lead, with Yeah fighting back near the latter portion of the half to put six on the board as they swapped to the attack. A pistol win for Johnny "JT" Theodosiou's side, combined with a string of additional rounds, allowed ex-Cloud9 a 14-7 lead, but Yeah fought valiantly to keep themselves in the running as they won eight rounds in a row to steal away match point. ex-Cloud9 finally put a halt to the streak to force overtime, where they were able to narrowly emerge victorious, 19-16.
Dust2 saw a departure from the narrow margins of the first two maps as Yeah were in control through and through, at one point leading 11-1 before ex-Cloud9 won three in a row to give themselves a fighting chance. However, the small set of rounds proved to be nowhere near enough for ex-Cloud9 to pull off a comeback, with Yeah wasting little time in the second half before they brought an end to the series with a 16-6 scoreline.
The grand final between Yeah and paiN is slated to play out later today at 7 PM EST.
