brett hopes the squad can still make it out

brett: "It's going to be way harder from here on out"

Unfortunately, they were taking a deeper dive into the map pool after today regardless.

BOSS were the stars of day one after their huge upset of MIBR. Their intent to honor the legacy of David "cynic" Polster has become the most emotional storyline of the Americas RMR and certainly has caught the attention of the Counter-Strike community as a whole.

Running into Complexity for their last BO1 was certainly a tall task, but after coming out on T-side of Ancient with 7 round wins, it looked like their Cinderella story was alive and well, but two back-breaking clutches from Complexity's Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli got the RMR favorites through to the 2-0 matches without too much further trouble. Dust2.us' Daniel "Scoobster" Khurgin caught up with BOSS's Brett "brett" Rhein after the close loss.

Tough loss, what went wrong?

Couldn't win any clutches, it was a really close game but we just couldn't close out some of the rounds, dumb mistakes, just them hitting nice shots plus fucking up bad.

Understandable, but today your individual form was on point, do you have anything to attribute that to?

Just like less nervous, wasn't the first game, it was the second game and we had a buffer. We lost, but we've never beat them in scrims so we knew...there was really nothing to lose here.

We know that you weren't able to come here last year with Detonate unfortunately, does it feel good to finally be here in Monterrey and being able to do what you weren't last year?

Yeah, I would've preferred to be playing CS:GO but I'm here on CS2, happy to be here. The city is beautiful and it's nice here.

You've only had PwnAlone on the team for a few weeks now but how does it feel being here with him at a LAN, 1-1 at the RMR, how is it being with him?

Well it's funny because I've been playing FPL with him for years but I've never been on a team with him. We always have some banter in FPL so it's good to be here with him, he's a good guy, real mature y'know, he's an old guy, he's a grown man. Love having him on the team.

Do you think that maturity helps you when you're in these tough situations, 1-0 up in the RMR but facing a tough game against Complexity and you're in these later rounds?

Yeah, definitely. Some of his mid round calls, settling us down when comms are getting too hectic was all good. He obviously has a lot of experience and helps us in the intense moments.

So unfortunately since you have lost today is there anything you're going to do to prep for tomorrow that you would do differently from today or is it just facing a tough opponent in Complexity?

Well to be honest with you we didn't prep very hard at all, we watched them play before the game for like thirty minutes and that was it for Complexity because we knew it was going to be a really hard game so we didn't want to spend too much time just to lose. Our next opponent it's way more important, it's do or die, so we'll probably be prepping way harder for that one.

[After the interview, brett reached out to offer clarification on his answer, stating that his original reply does not reflect his sincere attitudes on the team's preparation: "We have been preparing for the whole event for a long time, with minimum time off. Cryptic and Axed have been working hard behind the scenes to create gameplans before all matches. Going into the Complexity match, we knew it was going to be hard and that we had nothing to lose. We were so close."]

These next games are going to be BO3 from here on out, do you think that helps your squad?

No, I don't think it helps our squad. We have limited time with PwnAlone, our map pool isn't very full, and we're lacking on some maps heavily. I was really preferring the BO1 stage, especially against better teams, it's way harder to upset good teams in best-of-threes so it's going to be way harder from here on out.
