PwnAlone: "We want to win, to qualify in cynic's honor"
In undoubtedly the most shocking result of the first round of the Americas RMR, BOSS took down MIBR in a close affair, shunting the Brazilians to within one game of elimination. Such a result was unthinkable prior to the game, yet the orgless team rewrote the rules and won on Ancient 13-9.
After the match, Dust2.us' Jeffrey "Mnmzzz" Moore spoke with Josh "PwnAlone" Pigue on their upset victory, how practice has been with the team with his recent addition, and the unfortunate passing of the team's former member, David "cynic" Polster. The full interview can be watched on YouTube linked here.
How are you feeling right now? I mean, it's insane right?
Yeah, it's insane. Obviously, we did a lot of work to get here, but to beat them like that, it surprised us a little bit. We're feeling really good, we're hype, we're looking forward to the next game.
There was precious little time to get you in this roster, how has your integration as the new primary AWPer for this squad been?
There's still more work to be done. We've gotten to a base for every map, pretty much, but we still need to put some time and work in. We're probably gonna go up and talk more about this game right after this. As an AWPer, to be put into this position, we have a plan every round, we try to execute to the best that we can, we're just trying our best.
Playing under one IGL for such a long time, you tend to be ingrained somewhat by their style. Now you're serving under Cryptic has that given you a fresh perspective on the game? What's his style overall?
He's a different caller than Ben [Ben "ben1337" Smith]. Ben was more of a defaulty-type IGL. Cryptic wants everybody to be on the same page in a plan. It's a little different but I don't mind it. As long as everybody's on the same page we're good.
On a more sensitive topic, we saw before coming into this event the unfortunate passing of cynic. Despite you not playing with him on this iteration of BOSS, does it add an extra bit of gravity to perform well to honor his legacy?
It does. Obviously we want to win, to qualify in his honor, because he deserves to be here. He's the one who qualified for the event, and it just sucks that he can't be here to actually do it. I'm trying my best, they're trying their best to live up to the expectations and bring cynic's name to the CS2 stage, even though he's no longer here with us. We're trying our best.
