paiN and GGPR reach ESEA Autumn Cash Cup 3 semis
The first day of ESEA's third Autumn Cash Cup played out yesterday, seeing 43 teams compete for the $4,000 prize pool. When the dust settled, paiN and GGPR were left standing, and will take on the invited sides of Yeah and Rebirth later today.
Perhaps the most interesting anecdote from the early rounds comes from a match that didn't occur, as Depth were signed up for the event with David "Sneaky" Polster in place of stand-in Jake "bddu" Gartin, but forfeited to Open playoff team Coordinated Disrespect. Additionally, Advanced side KameHameHa narrowly scraped past top Main squad Cohesive Concepts.
In round four, Logan "Voltage" Long's MTU side fell to Rise on Inferno. Meanwhile, GGPR upset a Kinship side that was utilizing Voltage's fellow Triumph alum Gage "Spongey" Greiner in place of Sean "naes" Fontaine on Nuke.
In the final round of play yesterday, paiN were given a scare by David "J0LZ" Jolin and co., but edged out a 16-14 win on Inferno. On the other side of the bracket, GGPR had an easier time with Rise, securing a 16-8 win in what was likely an Advanced playoff preview.
The full bracket is available here.
All this means that the two teams will take on Yeah and Rebirth, respectively. Both matches will commence at 4PM EST today, with the final to follow straight after.
