Rebirth advance to IEM Beijing Closed Qualifier over Morning Light
Following the withdrawal of FURIA from IEM Beijing-Haidian and subsequent move-up of New England Whalers to the main event, Rebirth soundly defeated Morning Light to claim the newly-available spot in the event's Closed Qualifier.
The MDL side got off to a strong start on Vertigo, book-ending their Terrorist side with five round streaks spearheaded by David "Sneaky" Polster. In between these runs, Morning Light only managed three isolated rounds of their own. The Advanced side managed to notch four rounds on their own T-side after the switch, but ultimately fell to Rebirth 16-7.
Despite the one-sided loss, Morning Light's Jeremy "taiwi" Wang actually out-fragged Sneaky, with the pair notching 28 and 26 kills, respectively.
Recent history more or less repeated itself on Mirage, as Morning Light won four rounds in isolation on their opening Counter-Terrorist half. A pistol win after sides switched saw Rebirth climb to 13-4 before closing out the map 16-9.
As a result, the teams for the IEM Beijing-Haidian Closed Qualifier are:
Yeah | Mythic |
Rugratz | Rebirth |
The Closed Qualifier is set to commence this Friday, and will feature a double-elimination format. The two top teams will join the likes of Evil Geniuses and Liquid in the $70,000 main event, which will run from November 6th-22nd.
In the meantime, Rebirth, who are currently 7-5 in MDL, have a slate of matches against Vireo.pro, Depth, and ImPerium this week. Morning Light have just one match left in their Advanced season, set to take place against fellow 10-5 team Brigada later tonight.
