Thunderpick World Championship returns for 2024; set to feature four-team LAN
Sports gambling and casino company Thunderpick have announced the return of the Thunderpick World Championship for 2024, seeing the company put up $1 million in prizepools across the circuit. Like last year, Thunderpick are set to hold two qualifiers for North American teams, which will both have $25,000 on offer for the top two teams.
The biggest change from last year is that the event series will now culminate in a four-team LAN event in a yet to be revealed location. This was likely in response to questions being raised about the relevance of the event as the scene has largely transitioned back into being LAN-centric following the definitive end of the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year's World Championship event saw Complexity, Nouns, Wildcard, and M80 all in attendance, with all four teams failing to make a splash as they were knocked out in the group stage.
While details on the qualifier are sparse at this time, the format will likely be similar to last year, which saw two 16-team invite-only brackets played out over the course of a week. The first qualifier series is set to start on May 19th.
