ELEAGUE Boston to use Swiss format
The ELEAGUE Major set to take place in Atlanta, Georgia and Boston, Massachusetts on January 12th through 28th will utilize the Swiss format for its first two stages, VP of Tournament Operations at ELEAGUE Min-Sik Ko announced on Twitter.
The format, which was originally introduced by ESL at the ESL One Cologne 2016 Main Qualifier, gained quite a lot of popularity in 2017, appearing at many tournaments along with both Majors in the year. The format has also garnered a lot of criticism however, with many experts and analysts requesting changes like re-seeding.
The New Challengers Stage (or the Preliminary Stage) will begin on January 12th and will face the finalists from the Minors against the bottom eight teams of PGL Krakow 2017.
