Copenhagen Wolves brand acquired by 23-year-old American

CPH Wolves' new owner has a difficult road ahead of him as an inexperienced new owner.

On December 14th, the long-dormant X account of Copenhagen Wolves, a formerly prestigious Danish esports organization, suddenly sprang back to life. Considering its founder and owner, Jakob Lund Kristensen, has been uninvolved in the brand for seven-plus years this was quite a surprise. Well, JLK is in fact no longer involved in the organization at all, and its social media assets have been acquired by a 23-year-old American entrepreneur by the name of Jared "Outback" Habib, who is looking to revive the organization while based in New Jersey.

For those who are newer to the scene, Copenhagen Wolves was one of the most important organizations in the Danish scene during its original iteration from 2009 to 2016. A number of top Danish players plied their craft on the organization's rosters, including Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander, Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz, Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer, and Finn "karrigan" Andersen, among a large number of prestigious Danish players. The organization also attended three of the first five CS:GO Majors, leaving its mark in the game's history.

The organization was essentially a who's who of Danish talent before folding in 2016, with its owner Jakob Lund Kristensen also going on to play a founding role in Astralis, RFRSH, and BLAST. As such, the organization is a fairly sentimentalized brand in the Danish scene and abroad, however an American reviving it is certainly unexpected.

So who is Jared Habib? In a recorded statement to Dust2.us, Habib described himself as a lifelong gamer and esports fan, with a mortgage industry background, and previously owning a clothing brand. The young New Jersey resident has worked as a Sales Executive at MBS Highway, a software and insights company in the mortgage industry run by his father, Barry Habib, since high school.

This will be Habib's first organization that he has ever been a part of, with most of his esports history as an ESEA Intermediate player. Starting his playing career in mid-2019, he most recently attended Fragicago 2023 with Absolute Zero, falling just short of playoffs after a loss to 26 Rising in Group F.

Habib is the sole person behind the revived Copenhagen Wolves brand. With no outside investment, the young 23-year-old is entering his first esports venture on his own and without the guidance of endemic esports veterans. Habib plans to take things slow, he tells Dust2.us. He wants to make Copenhagen Wolves into a "significant esports brand once again," while he investigates the Wolves' future. He plans on hiring content creators, team members, and find suitable sponsors in the meantime.

While Habib's passion and excitement for esports and Copenhagen Wolves is genuine, there is a difficult road ahead of him as he looks to navigate the tumultuous esports landscape as a novice with significant resources or financial backing.
