JT: "We know we're a little bit inconsistent right now"
It has not been an easy day for Complexity as they were unable to stop TheMongolz from providing the upset of the tournament and their worst loss since losing to Forsaken at the IEM Sydney Closed Qualifier in August. This time, the match wasn't online and wasn't just for a qualifier - it was on LAN and in front of a home crowd.
The tough game brought up some important issues for the American squad, who Johnny "JT" Theodosiou recognizes is still a little bit inconsistent. After the victory against GamerLegion, JT spoke with Dust2.us Jeffrey "Mnmzzz" Moore where the IGL spoke about the team's performances as of late, his own fragging ability, and what the team is looking to do differently against TheMongolz in their next matchup. Please note that the full interview can be found below on YouTube, while the transcript has some key snippets from their conversation.
Being ranked #5 in the world, do you feel any pressure coming into this event as favorites to win it all outright?
I wouldn't say it's too much pressure. We know that we're a little bit inconsistent right now, we're trying to gain some consistency. We're coming here expecting to at least go as far as we can. We're not coming here to lose in the group stage - we're going to come here, make sure we get to the Grand Finals, and hopefully win it from there. We put in a lot of work this season, we've been playing really well, and we want to actually... We want something to bring home. We don't know how long we're going to be playing this well, so we want something to bring home. This is just the perfect tournament to do it, we're in NA, and it's a nice crowd.
One wouldn't describe you as a 'fragging IGL', but your mechanics have noticeably improved in CS2, do you agree with that?
I think it's hard to tell. To be honest, I always was pretty confident in my mechanics. I just think now in CS2, and now especially with the new roster, I'm just playing in more comfortable positions. In general, we're just more planned out, everything's more structured, so I'm able to focus more on my own game, I'm also just put in better positions. I think there's a little bit to it that I'm more comfortable with CS2 with just the way that the game's played.
You have a rematch against TheMongolz, which was surprising to many. Do you think you're going to come in with a different attitude tomorrow?
I mean, obviously, I think we're going to play better tomorrow. I think they had a good game plan on their T-side, and we were able to eventually stop that, but on our T-side we were in the position to win. We just messed up rounds that we should have won, messed up rounds we had the advantages in, and I think tomorrow if we just focus on not rushing ourselves and focus on minimizing mistakes, I think we should be able to win that game easily.
