Twistzz reaches IEM Sydney playoffs
FaZe's path to the playoffs was filled with obstacles from the very beginning. It started with an overtime loss against GamerLegion, then an elimination match against reigning Major champions Vitality, only to be followed up with a match against NAVI. With wins in both games, FaZe finally got to their revenge match against GamerLegion. In the back-and-forth series, FaZe took the 2-1 win over GamerLegion as Helvijs "broky" Saukants and Håvard "rain" Nygaard were the stars of the show.
The series started off on GamerLegion's Ancient where each side had their own runs of form. Despite GL winning the first two rounds, FaZe answered back with five straight, only to lose four in a row before ending the half 6-6. The second half started with another four rounds for FaZe and GamerLegion was not able to answer with the same strength. FaZe reached a 12-8 lead, and while GL managed to recover to 12-11, it was Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken who helped his team close it out the map 13-11.
On FaZe's pick things weren't as close. GamerLegion showed incredible defensive prowess, going into the T-side with a 10-2 lead. FaZe managed to recover a little bit, but it was too late for a comeback, as GL finished the map 13-7.
The decider would be Nuke and although the first half was close with FaZe taking a slight 7-5 lead, it was the T-side where the team shined. broky led the team with eleven kills and a 146.9 ADR, only losing a single round in that half and clinching a playoff spot after winning Nuke 13-6.
FaZe will now face ENCE in the quarterfinals of IEM Sydney 2023 on Friday at 04:30AM.
