Complexity sweep Monte to clinch playoff spot in Sydney
Complexity met Monte again in Sydney but this time it was for the final playoff spot in Group B. What didn't change from the last time the two met was the outcome of the series. Complexity, in a Bo3 this time, beat Monte 2-0, in two very close maps.
If you are Alex “Mauisnake” Ellenberg, you have just been shown you are plain wrong about your take on Complexity choking on match point, as the team twice closed the game with that advantage.
The first map was Complexity's pick of Overpass. Both teams won their CT half 7-5, despite Complexity not winning a single pistol round. As the game went to overtime, Complexity won all three CT side rounds and, after losing just one on the T side, closed the map 16-13 with a beautiful 2v5 from Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski and Johnny "JT" Theodosiou.
Ancient would be another map featuring overtime, after another two 7-5 halves, this time with the T side being the most favorable one and, again, with Complexity not winning a single pistol round. 7-5 in favor of the Ts, as Complexity sent the game to OT on that side, had the team going in with all the momentum, and that was the difference maker as the NA team won two of the first three rounds and then closed the map 16-13 again with two CT rounds, not choking any 15-x lead.
With this win, Complexity will face BetBoom in the quarterfinals of IEM Sydney 2023 on Friday.
